In January 2015 I attended the Advanced Icon Painting Workshop in Melbourne Australia conducted by Philip Davydov. I was a wonderful experience. I learnt so much with Philip's method of teaching and nurturing each one of us.

We had a wonderful weekend at St Clement's Galong.

Nine people join me and we prayed together, ate together and painted together.

It was inspiring being with other like minded people. Painting, talking, sharing and having fun doing what we are passionate about - painting.

We had peaceful pauses for quiet and space with the Lord.

I loved standing by the fish pond, listening to the fountain trickling - and recalled the scripture - Deep Calls to Deep. The Lord was calling to me to rest on Him

Peace and Joy be with you always.

There is nothing quite as beautiful as Sydney Harbour on a clear blue day.
It is easy to travel around Sydney by train.
The State Library of New South Wales is in the heart of the city, this beautiful statue dedicated to Shakespeare is in the front forecourt.

The Bogong moth arrived at the farm, at Murrumburrah, early April 2014 one evening and stayed for about two weeks before there were no more to be seen.
One evening there was much commotion on the back veranda and when I looked out the dog was having much fun playing with a number of huge moths flying above his head. They were the size of small birds. There were about 20 moths flying around the night light.
The following day I found a moth camouflaged at the base of a small tree trunk - very clever.

Wikipedia's reference to the Bogong moth is as follows -
The Bogong moth (Agrotis infusa) is a temperate species of night-flying moth notable for appearing in large numbers around major public buildings in Canberra, the capital city of Australia, during spring (late September to November) as it migrates to the High Plains. The moth's name 'Bogong' is the same as the mountain ranges on the High Plains i.e. the Bogongs, and may mean 'Big Fella' hence the name for the mountains, or it may have been the name for the Moth which has been accorded to the mountains as their locale.Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08258004510384873433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-759773204286233186.post-37111528730783174612014-04-27T22:27:00.001+10:002014-04-30T18:23:54.982+10:00Harden Gold Trail Festival 2014

This is a new Icon of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop which I have completed in March 2014.
The image bears the wattle to symbolize the oneness of St Mary with the people and land of Australia.
The wagon wheel represents the vast amount of travel she did in Australia, New Zealand and the world.
The movement in her veil reveals her energy in educating and caring for the poor.
Her right hand is outstretched in service and love. Her left hand is folded in prayer in honour of the most Holy Cross of Jesus Christ - Redeemer and Saviour.
The Cathedral symbolizes the love for the Church which Mary had always in her heart.
The Icon is in tempera paints and gold leaf.Suehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08258004510384873433noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-759773204286233186.post-50297645994330969002014-01-24T16:27:00.003+11:002014-01-27T22:53:23.601+11:00St Francis of Assisi Icon

In this image St Francis preaches to the birds who listen to his word.

Francis told the birds: "My sweet little sisters, birds of the sky, you are bound to heaven, to God, your Creator. In every beat of your wings and every note of your songs, praise Him. He has given you the greatest of gifts, the freedom of the air. You neither sow, nor reap, yet God provides for you the most delicious food, rivers and lakes to quench your thirst, mountains and valleys for your home, tall trees to build your nests, and the most beautiful clothing: a change of feathers with every season. You and your kind were preserved in Noah's Ark. Clearly, our Creator loves you dearly, since He gives you gifts so abundantly. So please beware, my little sisters, of the sin of ingratitude, and always sing praise to God."

The people who witnessed Francis' sermon to the birds reported that the birds listened intently to everything Francis had to say and remained attentively gathered around Francis until he blessed them and they flew away.

the Fourth Lateran Council and that he heard the words of Pope Innocent III
when he said, "The TAU has exactly the same form as the Cross on which our
Lord was crucified on Calvary, and only those will be marked with this sign and
will obtain mercy who have mortified their flesh and conformed their life to that

This is one of the Icons I am writing for the exhibition at the Black Swan,
Binalong NSW which will run during October to December 2013.
<u1:p></u1:p>
This is an Icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, know also as Our Lady of Perpetual Help or The Madonna of the Passion, I have spent 50 hours in
the preparation of this beautiful Icon and five others of the Mother and Child
Jesus.
<u1:p></u1:p>
This Icon is based on the Icon written by Saint Luke. It is in Rome in
the care of the Redempetorist Fathers. My husband and I attend Mass on a
regular basis at the Redemporist Monastery, St Clements, at Galong NSW. It is a
privilege and a great grace to join with the Fathers in their prayers on
Saturday morning in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (Help).
<u1:p></u1:p>
The esteemed icon has been in Rome since 1499, and is permanently enshrined
in the church of Sant'Alfonso di Liguori in the Esquiline Hill. is known as the
Virgin of the Passion or Theotokos of the Passion due to the Archangels surrounding
the image.
<u1:p></u1:p>
The Redemptorist priests are the only religious order currently entrusted by
the Holy See to protect and propagate a Marian religious work of art.
<u1:p></u1:p>
Today, Our Lady of Perpetual Help's solemn feast day is celebrated annually
on June 27.
I have been writing Icons since 2005 and have completed around fourteen Icons that are housed in various parts of Australia.

I have an exhibition which I am working towards in October at The Black Swan, Galong NSW for which I am writing Icons of The Virgin, Mother of the Sweet Kiss and The Mother of Perpetual Help - after the image written by St Luke and several other images.

I also love creating rosary bracelets.
They will be available on my new web page - Sues Religious Icons.

On the occasion of my daughter's wedding I created wedding candles for the special occasion.
I will have them available for you to see and order if you have an occasion approaching for which you would like a personalised candle.

I will let you know when the Sues Religious Icons web site is ready. Watch this space...!!!

Many blessings Sue

This is The Good Shepherd icon I have recently completed. It is a gift for a friend who was good enough to "water divine" on our property.

We had a bore drilled and have a good water stream under our property. We are so please to have an additional source of water as this past summer it so extremely hot that dams that had not dried up in the 9 year drought dried up in January/February 2013. The temperature was in the mid 40'sC and the wind was constant. It was a very dry atmosphere and the earth was parched. The plants suffered greatly from the severe conditions

We each need to do our utmost to look after the planet we share and to care for our neighbour.

'The Lord is My Shepherd, I lack nothing.' Psalm 23.
Oh Immaculate Virgin Mary
Never was it known at any age that anyone who fled to your protection
implored your help or sort your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence I fly to Thee oh Virgin of Virgins my Mother,
to Thee do I come, before Thee I stand sinful and sorrowful.
Do not oh Mother of the Word Incarnate despise my prayers,
but graciously hear and answer them.
Amen.
This statue of the Virgin Mary was given to my Grandmother Mollie, on her wedding day November 1922. Last November it was 100 Years old.
She has always had a very special place within our family home.
Oh Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to Thee.
